Without even a taste test, I filled my growler with Mental by Pizza Boy Brewing.
I always expect that the offerings from one of my favorite beer places will satisfy. But when one exceeds expectations so drastically, jubilant outbursts by both taste buds and vocal chords abound.
“Holy balls this is awesome!”
And the taste bud response “Can’t wait to have more of this magical concoction wash over us!”
“Pardon me,” my wallet utters. “it was only $10 for a growler!”
In addition, my enhanced mental faculties also chime in “And we feel real good too…”
So I must review this beer.
Mental by Pizza Boy Brewing – The beautiful beer pours a nice coppery-amber color with a crown of fluffy white billowy head. It has a very spicy, piney, dank resin smell reminiscent of weed, honey, and fresh pine. The taste blasts bitterness, and earthy, slightly herbal, flavors into your mouth with a slight tinge of lemon and citrus fruits on the back-end. I would guess there is rye malt and Columbus hops in this(though I couldn’t be sure) but I can’t place particular hops in the nose. This tastes like a marriage of two of my favorite IPA’s wedding Green Flash Imperial and Green Flash Road Warrior. The bitter tingling in my mouth and coating my palate is divine. Nice work. I’ll be back to refill my growler soon. 9.5/10
