There is a true deity that affects our all of our lives.
The choice of an ultimate, spiritual leader is inconsequential after all. The ongoing conflicts between acolytes of supreme spiritual devotees will never cease. But, there is a conceptual, albeit massively impactful, one that rules everyone.
It doesn’t care whether you are agnostic, atheist, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Gnostic, Taoist, Pagan, Scientologist, or any other denomination. It affects you, me, and everyone, equally.
It cannot be swayed, prayed to, bargained with, or promised a soul.
It will not grant immortality, nor demand sacrifice.
It will not solve problems, nor fix them.
It is the equalizer, the balance, the scales, and the sword at the neck of all human beings.
We fight against it.
We make plans to conquer it.
We seek to harness it.
We long to be free of it.
We try to turn back its course on our lives.
We rush it to propel our lives forward.
But, we are ultimately powerless. It will move us, drive us, force us and ultimately control every single one of us. We can’t resist it. We may hold back against other deities, we may change them at will, we may even choose none. But there is one that owns us all.
You know where to find it.
You know how it affects you.
You know the pressure it exerts.
You are aware of how your decisions hinge upon it.
You yearn to decide for yourself against the power of it.
But it will never stop. It will never grant relief. It will never understand your longing for prolonging. It will bear down on your precious existence with no promise of heaven or hell. It cares not about your riches or poverty. It disregards your good deeds and bad. It laughs at your attempts to cheat its power.
It provides rage that resists dying.
It is silent need that keeps workers, working.
It is the gravity that keeps you from flying.
It is the longing for immortality that keeps us yearning.
It is the cruel joke, that keeps all from truly smiling.
There is a true god. And we all know its name.
Time.
Humbly yours,
J
