Who doesn’t love breakfast?
I know, when I wake up, one of the first thoughts I have is about what I will eat to nourish my body. It’s been said that “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” Not only is this likely true, but in consideration of all potential meals, breakfast, at least to my mind and taste buds, is the most flavorfully gratifying.
Isn’t one of the best sensations, from a scent perspective, to be awoken to the subtle, yet stimulating, smells of percolating coffee, pancakes with butter sizzling on a griddle, and slightly greasy, and oily, eggs slowly browning at the edges in a pan?
The scent removes all possibility of snoozing, and practically draws one out of the bed with sensory lure.
And then, once dreaminess has been conquered, resistance to movement has been overcome, and progression toward the kitchen has been achieved, breakfast, with the accompanying salivation, can commence.
The steaming cup of coffee in front of you forces rich, roasty, and earthy notes into your eager nostrils. The eggs smell oily, greasy, and produce a mouth-watering response that propels your hand towards a fork. The bread is hearty, toasted, and drips with butter that upon biting down, reveals a creamy grain fusion taste that will send your mind to ecstasy. If you are like me, this masterful arrangement of breakfast food wonder completes with a healthy portion of bacon, or another savory meat. This rich, oily, slightly salty, tasty, and chewy protein, thoroughly rounds out the breakfast experience.
Are you hungry for breakfast food?
I am not one to have a beer for breakfast. I prefer the food option, followed by vigorous exercise, or perhaps a bit of lounge time before going about my day. But the breakfast drink, or beer, is, apparently, quite popular.
I’m trying this one as a night-cap, to be honest. But I am dedicated to determining the essential elements in this beer.
Dogfish Head – Beer for Breakfast Stout – This beer is a rich, dark, molasses colored brew topped with a very thin, mocha head. The smell, is an odd but exquisitely pleasant fusion of oily bacon, coffee, and rich malty stout. The taste starts off very assertively with salty, smoked meats, and mellows with light maple and molasses notes, while finishing sweet and delicate. The body is moderate and not too chewy. I’m actually a fan of drinking this from a measuring cup as I am imagining the pairing of this beer with a short stack of fluffy pancakes with a side of mixed fruit. I would happily drink this again. I might even go contrary to my own tendencies, and have one of these by itself, for breakfast. 8/10
Humbly yours,
J
