Is there a cruise control setting on our emotions?
Do we, in similar fashion to the behaviors exhibited in long driving scenarios, zone out, while engaging the cruise option, and float to our next outpost on lifes highways?
Where might this leave us?
Are we filling a latrine in a random rest stop, unaware of how we were transported to this spot?
Are we having dinner with our families, ingesting the nutrients required for continuation, minuscule word-birds entering left ear, and departing right, yet imparting nothing?
Do you say the expected words without believing them? Do you function out of a rote compulsion, or does any interaction stoke your internal fires?
How much of who we are belongs to us?
We give to get. We search to find. We ask to receive. We implore to absolve. We exert to relieve.
We try to set a direction for ourselves, but our true north is within us.
So many efforts, plans, and tears are spent trying to adjust ourselves to the directions of another persons soul, when the answers lie internally.
Comfort declares itself its worst enemy. Complacency a second cousin.
You are your own breaking point, and simultaneously, your own cruise control.
