Perpetuity

admittedly I am feeling no strong compulsion to write.  Though my failure to write is essentially an admission of a lack of commitment to this blog which I intend to maintain.  I’m not sure how long I intend to write such a thing. It currently resembles the doldrums like phase of a relationship.  Once the initial excitement and frenetic lustrous shine abates, the reality of the connection is revealed.  This creation, like a car, relationship, or any pursuit really, requires maintenance.

Maintenance is that necessary yet monotonous element that when executed yields temporary yet reasonably tangible results.  Maintenance could mean the pushups that we do regularly to prevent the atrophy of our musculature. It could mean doing the dishes regularly.  For if this chore is not regularly maintained, the mountain of filthy utensils then feels insurmountable and becomes a real effort necessitating labor.  Maintenance could be the stimulation of ones sense by reading a book.  If it were not for this regular diet of reading our minds become acclimated to visual sensory satisfaction and find television a suitable substitution for intellectual development.   It could mean walking 30 minutes a day.  And that 30 minutes could prevent a catastrophic heart attack that might end your life.

Maintenance is not glamorous.  Maintenance doesn’t feel exciting.  Routine actions and repeated efforts can feel like a chore.  Yet without these repetitions we find our lives much more unmanageable.  I’ve heard it said that short cuts make for long delays. That seems right in this discussion.

I offer these thoughts  regarding the perpetual and repetitive nature of our existence.  We reach and strive for the grand and noble achievements.  However, it is the practiced and continual processes that actually facilitation our achievements.   The lawn left un-mowed with eventually become a forest.  Even our macadam roadways would eventually denigrate and erode and be reclaimed by nature without attendance.  I toast the support of our higher nature through maintenance of our most base needs with

Troegs Perpetual IPA – The one that sold me on this company overall.  I must believe that any good brewery can only be great with an excellent IPA.  This one is terrific.  Amazing subtle grapefruit flavors with a great bitter hop presence and mouth tingling ibus.  The fact that, true to the name, it is available at all times makes it even better. A great sunshine gold color with the perfect level of carbonation.  However, it does require regular consumption, or even perpetual consumption. Letting this sit too long has some harmful effect to the taste.  This one was a little old. 7.5/10

Humbly Yours,

J
