Great gifts

There is a drastic difference between two types of gifts.

In one instance we are highly praised, and commended, for being able to give our hearts to another person.  Heart shaped likes appear on our social pages. People smile when they see clasped hands. Eyes tear when they witness romantic gestures. Emotions run high when declarations of love are thrown to the masses.

But the gift of the heart is not the ultimate gift. For if this gift is handled carelessly, all know, surely it will break. Yet, being organically part of us, the heart will heal.

But consider, instead, the gift of trust. This is gift that is publicly broadcast. It is not a gesture that makes people swoon. It is not the type that makes people gush and grin.  There is no outburst of adulation that comes with this offering

But it does make the wise nod in appreciation.

For, though just as delicate as the heart, trust cannot self-repair.  Trust, once broken, is never the same.  We know, that when we give the gift of trust, it may be returned damaged beyond repair.

This makes trust, the greatest gift of all.

Humbly yours,

J
