Open Hand

Here.

Please, open your hand.

Are you ready?

Good, I’m glad.

I will just ask one thing of you, before I place it in your hand.

I’m not asking anything outlandish of you.

No, no.  Its not heavy, nor will you damage it.  I assure you, it’s not burdensome.

There’s no reason to be scared of it.  Please don’t be.

It’s just something I want you to have.

Yes, it’s incredibly important to me, in fact, it is the most important thing to me, yet simultaneously, that which is most fragile and damageable.

I’m sure I want you to have it.

It’s not really something you remove from yourself to completely give over to another person.

It’s more like a mutual commitment, that which, once you agree to accept it, will benefit us both.

Thank you.

Clasp it tightly! Don’t drop it!

I’m sorry, you’re right, it is a little weighty.

What do I call it? Are you still unsure at this point?

Trust.

Humbly yours,

J
