Road Warrior

A slightly intimidating title wouldn’t you say?

Though the background seems far from glamorous, this beer was brewed in honor of the Green Flash sales team who apparently forged the way through bars and various drinking locales to promote the Green Flash beer experience.  I, for one, am grateful for their perseverance and dedication, as this company has produced some of my favorite beers.

When presented with the opportunity to sample a new imperial ipa from Green Flash, and one brewed with rye(!), i could barely contain myself.

Green Flash Road Warrior – I put my nose to the glass and smelled deeply, and then went back to the glass.  Could it be? Yes I believed so! There were Columbus hops in this one!  Undoubtably one of my favorite hops,  due to a slightly sweet and earthy profile, the scent of Road Warrior assured me this one was present.  A quick twist of the bottle confirmed my suspicion.  My fine drinking mate Justin has confidently insisted that one of the other hops in the recipe, Mosaic, imparts a corn nuts flavor to a beer.  I don’t gather that from this particular brew.  I do get an abundant sweetness from the rye used as malt in this concoction and say thankya for its use in creating Road Warrior.   The smell is sugary sweet and caramel laden with a tinge of floral hop bitterness. (I know right, but that’s what I get)  Moderate lacing on the glass bears no more discussion.  Its color reminds one of an amber and is close to the darkest imperial ipa I’ve ever seen.  It tastes like earthy, slightly herbal, sweet tea, and mouth puckering bitter citrus and piney hops.  I really need to find a Green Bullet, West Coast IPA, Imperial, and Palate Wrecker and sample them all at one time.  Hopefully fortune will facilitate the realization of this desire. Damn this is good. 9/10
