Go ahead. Touch the handle!

You are out enjoying your shopping experience, restaurant experience, or any out-in-public experience.  The urge strikes.  It won’t be ignored.  There won’t be a way to suppress it until you return home.

You must use the bathroom.

It’s inevitable.  The propensity to micturate or defecate must occur.  Even if it weren’t to occur to you, surely your female friend may need accompaniment to the w.c.

You finish your rote exercise and proceed to wash your hands.  This behavior is then interrupted by a bizarre observation.  A pseudo-human entity has emerged from the nearest stall and proceeds directly to the door which you will soon engage.  The sonic-boom flatulence and shit-hitting-water splashing sounds still resonate in your mind as hand touches handle and you know, clearly, that you must touch the same handle to exit the restroom.

Do you evaluate the hand drying options at this point?  Is there paper towel dispenser available or only an auto-dry system?  Do you anticipate the inevitable sullying of your palms via this degenerates negligence?

The fact that this is even a consideration is highly disturbing.  In a cultured (supposedly) society, surely the abundance of soap and other cleansers is so prevalent that the thought of not washing ones hands should seem incomprehensible.   Yet, on a regular basis, I witness this behavior.   And I imagine, so do you.

As a word of caution then, in regards to these blatantly noxious sub-humans, touch not the handles.  For, if I have seen only a limited display of this abhorrent behavior, there surely must be rampant displays in innumerable places worldwide.

Humbly yours,

J

  1. I’m sure everyone has been in your shoes and responded likewise. The next time anyone encounters this, address the culprit with, “I believe you forgot something”, then turn on the water. Or sing a song. You tube is loaded with rap songs about washing your hands. That would be interesting.
