Brumous

It seems I once again draw inspiration from WordPorn. This site has an uncanny knack for titillating the grey matter and arousing the synapses.  I have encountered quite a few excellent words thus far from this site, but as I have been lax in reviewing brews of late, this subtle premonitory signal prompts action.

Brumous means of grey skies and winter days; filled with heavy clouds or fog, relating to winter or cold, sunless weather.
How appropriate that this is the type of day surrounding my physical state and my internal constitution.  Interestingly enough, sounding this word out also resembles the same of my site.  Surely these correlations should be toasted!  And what better way to do so than with…

Weyerbacher Winter Ale – Pouring this yields a nice dark rust/copper hued body that is opaque but for small shifts in the right lighting. Head retention is minimal but a coffee creme lingering remains on the surface after a few sips.  It smells like burnt caramel, toffee, banana and barley flake.  Upon tasting one might think of a traditional english mild ale with a bit more punch.  A Belgian candied sugar taste alights briefly on the taste buds before giving way to a coffee grind type of aftertaste.  This is pleasant overall though at 5.6% ABV not extremely warming to the internals.  6/10

New Belgium Accumulation – This pours a nice hazy golden straw color with a thick billowy cotton candy head.  The smell is yeasty and smells faintly of fresh-cut hay. There is a lemony-citrus and slightly bitter pine note to the smell as well.  Faint wisps of white peppercorn can be ascertained in the nose.  Additionally, subtle notes of freshly baked lemon bars come through in the smell.  Tasting this is an immense treat.  Sweet lemon and citrus marry a lightly carbonated easy drinking body that dances mirthfully on your palate. There is a little lingering bitterness in the aftertaste too that is not unpleasant.  Each sip is so gratifying that reposition of the glass is almost unbearable.  9.5/10
